Executive summary
I graduated in May with a Master of Arts in Government from Johns Hopkins University. Previously, I served for 3 years as the vice chair of the Iowa Democratic Party, where I worked on statewide initiatives and represented the party on press tours. I stepped down to run for the Iowa House in 2020. After I lost (as a Democrat in an R+7 district), I knew I wanted to do something to make a positive difference in the world. I went back to grad school to study affective polarization, and in the process, re-discovered a love of data analysis and visualization.
Previously, in Shanghai, China, as Director of Marketing for a multinational company, I supervised an international team through the opening of a hospital. Before that, I worked for the world's second largest market research firm, where I led the development and management of China's first multi-city pharmaceutical panel, as well as managing complex studies involving both qualitative and quantitative consumer research for several FMCG clients. I also worked for China's first internet audience measurement company, responsible for analyzing data and writing their key syndicated research reports for mainland China.
I am looking for a remote (or local to Des Moines) opportunity. I'm open to a wide range of positions, but the reason I went to graduate school was to sharpen my skills so that I can make a positive difference in making our country better. For me, that means lessening toxic polarization, strengthening our democracy, fighting to protect civil liberties and access to abortion, tackling issues like racial injustice and income inequality, helping the government to make evidence-based decisions, or helping to get candidates who are fighting those fights elected.
