When I lost my race for the Iowa House of Representatives in 2020 (as a Democrat in an R+7 district), I decided I wanted to direct my life toward understanding what I saw as one of the biggest challenges of our time: negative or affective (emotional) political polarization. I went to graduate school as a non-traditional student in 2023, and in the process, re-discovered a love of data analysis and visualization.
Previously, in Shanghai, China, as Director of Marketing for a multinational company, I supervised an international team through the opening of a hospital. Before that, I worked for the world's second largest market research firm, where I led the development and management of China's first multi-city pharmaceutical panel, as well as managing consumer research for several FMCG clients. I also worked for China's first internet audience measurement company, responsible for analyzing data and writing their key syndicated research products for mainland China.
I'm currently open to remote (or local to Portland, Oregon) positions. I'm open to a wide range of positions, but I want to be making a positive difference. For me, that means lessening toxic polarization, strengthening our democracy, fighting to protect civil liberties and access to abortion, tackling issues like racial injustice and income inequality, helping the government to make evidence-based decisions, and/or helping to get candidates who are fighting those fights elected.
